Nextel announced it has selected a partner to provide its subscribers with inter-carrier text messaging capabilities. This is significant because Nextel was the last US carrier that not agreed to do so. Inter-network messaging ubquitity is cited as one of the reasons text messaging (SMS) has not seen the adoption in the US that other parts of the world have enjoyed.
